Om församlingen | About the church

Välkommen till metodistförsamlingen i Karleby - en växande, internationell församling med stark betoning på orden "familj" och "fest". Församlingen är officiellt svenskspråkig, men fungerar i praktiken på flera språk. Gudstjänsterna översätts simultant till engelska, vid behov också till finska.

Förvandlade liv är den motiverande tanken bakom vårt arbete. Vi tror och har sett att Jesus kan förvandla människors liv, ge ljus där det är mörkt, hopp där allt verkar hopplöst.

Viktiga värderingar för oss är:

Att söka Gud. Vi prioriterar tid för bön och tillbedjan. Vi vill utveckla en djup vänskap med Gud och lära känna honom allt bättre.

Delade liv. Vi tror att "församling" handlar om att dela liv och bry sig om varandra. Det betyder t.ex. att vi ofta äter tillsammans, såsom varje söndag efter gudstjänsten. Maten är gratis och alla är välkomna.

Enkelhet. Vi tror på det enkla: en enkel organisation, få organiserade aktiviteter, enkel tillbedjan. I en tid då många känner sig stressade vill vi inte öka bördan med krav och prestationer. I stället vill vi hjälpa människor att fokusera på det viktigaste i livet och vända bort blicken från det som distraherar.

Ärlighet. Vi tror på ärlighet och söker att vara trovärdiga.

Gästvänlighet. Vi vill praktisera öppna hem och betona det fina i att mötas på ett enkelt sätt på hemmaplan, t.ex. kring matbordet. I församlingen finns olika smågrupper där den som vill kan få vara en del av en mindre gemenskap. Vi vill betona att vi tror att alla behöver denhär typen av mindre gemenskap för att växa och mogna.

Inbjudan. Vi tycker om att inbjuda nya människor hem, till gudstjänster, till vår coffee shop Café Livingroom eller till något annat vi sysslar med. Framför allt vill vi hjälpa människor in i en egen relation med Jesus.

Welcome to the United Methodist church in Kokkola – a growing, international church with emphasis on the words “family” and “celebration”.

The church is officially Swedish-speaking, but in practise we speak and represent many languages. The worship services are interpreted simultaneously to English, if needed also to Finnish.

The words “Changed lives” motivate us strongly. We believe that Jesus can change people’s lives, give light where there is no hope.

We value:

Spending time with God. We highly value prayer and worship. We believe it is important to develop a deep friendship with God and learn to know Him better and better.

Shared lives. We believe "church" is about shared lives and care for one another. We often eat together, f.ex. every Sunday after service. The meal does not cost anything and all are welcome to eat with us.

Simplicity. We believe in simplicity: simple organization, few organized activities, simple worship. In a time when many feel over-worked and overwhelmed by the demands of life, we don't want to increase the burden. Instead, we want to help people to focus on that which is the most important in life, and turn away from things that distract.

Honesty. We value honesty and seek to be trustworthy.

Hospitality. We believe in hospitality and emphasize the beauty of meeting in a simple way in homes, f.ex. around a shared meal. In the church there are small groups for those that want to be part of a smaller fellowship. We want to underline that we believe that all need this kind of a caring fellowship in order to grow and mature.

Invitation. We like to invite people to our homes, to worship services, to our coffee shop Café Livingroom or to something else we do. Most of all we want to help people find a personal relationship with Jesus.
